Vehicle Dealers: Getting Started

You can apply for a vehicle dealer license using the FCAA Registration and Licensing System at https://fcaa.saskatchewan.ca/

Before you commence an application, read about licensing requirements and the information you will need to complete the submission process. During the submission process you have to answer questions about your business activities and demonstrate that you are suitable for licensing.

You can find a complete guide to vehicle dealer licensing here .

Before You Begin

Documents you will need:

You will have to submit electronic copies of several documents as part of your application.

The documents you are required to supply will vary depending on your planned business activities and the type of license you are applying for.

Brokers and Vehicle Rental Companies are encouraged to review the Information Guide prior to beginning their submission.

When completing your submission, you will be prompted to submit electronic copies of:

  • A zoning approval letter from your local municipal government for the location of your proposed dealership lot.  If your office is at a separate location, an approval for each location is required.
  • A copy of your phone bill, as evidence that you have a business phone number registered in the name of your business.
  • The original signed, sealed and witnessed penal bond, which needs to be submitted to the Consumer Protection Division of the FCAA. This is generally satisfied by filing a $25,000 penal bond with the director that was obtained from an insurance agency. The bond must use the identical wording utilized here. An electronic copy of this document will be uploaded as part of your application.
  • Criminal record checks. The individuals for which criminal record checks are required vary based on the structure of your business. You will be prompted for the required checks during the submission process. Note that once you have submitted the required checks, we will require updated checks every five years.
  • A copy of the contract you intend to use. Based on your business activities, this may include sale contracts, lease contracts, and consignment contracts.

Based on the information you provide during the submission; additional documentation may be required.

To complete the review of your application, FCAA requires that you submit your original financial security document (typically a penal bond). After completing your submission, you will be provided with the information on how to send this document to us by mail.

Photographs you will require

We require photographs of your facilities, including your dealership lot and office.  Depending on your planned business activities, you may be exempt from these requirements (refer to the Information Guide for details). Required photographs must be submitted electronically.  You may send the file from a digital camera or smartphone or provide a scanned image.  Required Photographs include:

  • A clear overall view of the vehicle lot
  • A view that demonstrates your lot in relation to the street/roadway
  • A clear view of the building/structure where your office is located
  • A clear view of the interior of your office
  • A clear view of your lot signage
  • A clear view of your posted hours of operation
